Prepare For A Jolly Time At Meeru This Festive Season

The most exciting time of the year is almost upon us! As per tradition, we have prepared a series of activities to help us all get in the festive spirit as we make wonderful memories. Whatever holiday you celebrate, if you will be in Meeru Island Resort & Spa this December, you can expect to have a jolly time. Our festive season programme has been created to ensure that there is never a dull moment. The programme starts on December 20, 2019, with a lighting ceremony where you can watch the island come alive with glorious lights, and ends on January 2, 2020. Embark On A Culinary Journey With Meeru’s Dine-Around Concept

One of the highlights of every visit to Meeru Island Resort & Spa is the culinary experience. Whether you are dining at the buffet restaurants or a la carte, you are guaranteed delicious food in a beautiful setting. The culinary team at Meeru is always looking to elevate the guest experience by consistently offering delicious food at great value. The most recent innovation is the dine-around concept introduced to the a la carte restaurants: Asian Wok and Hot Rock.

The concept takes guests on a culinary journey, allowing them to sample exquisite cuisines and adding an extra spark to their holidays. On various days of the week, guests can try the variety of set menus at both Hot Rock and Asian Wok, delighting in the abundance of flavour. At the overwater Asian Wok Restaurant, for example, the set menus meander through the Asian region, serving up vibrant dishes that are as visually appealing as they are delicious. On Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, Thai cuisine is on offer with favourites like moo pad mamoung. On Tuesdays and Fridays, patrons can explore Indonesian cuisine, digging into decadent dishes like lobster laksa. Finally, on Wednesdays and Sundays, the culinary train hops over to neighbouring Sri Lanka tabling the contemporary flavours of Ceylon. There is a vegan menu available throughout, and as always, the beautiful views of the sea serve as a backdrop to dine against.

Laurent Ghislain Pacolet, the Food & Beverage Director, spoke on the inspiration behind the concept.

“One of the hot trends and demands currently influencing luxury travel is the dine-around option. Our commitment to offering excellent added value inspired our newly launched dine-around concept. We were also inspired by a desire to uplift the dining experience significantly for guests at our a la carte restaurants. Now, at Asian Wok Restaurant, guests can sample a vast array of the exquisite cuisines that Meeru offers, such as the vitalising senses of Thai cuisine, exciting flavours of Indonesia and epicurean delights from Sri Lanka. At outdoor Hot Rock Restaurant, guests can indulge in fine Western cuisine with some exciting set menus. From classic ‘Homage’ that showcases traditional recipes, ‘Culinary Extravaganza’ which offers an ultimate degustation dining experience from internationally acclaimed signature recipes, to ‘Chef’s Epicurean Medley’ where our Executive Chef created a menu that celebrates classic culinary culture.”

To try out the dine-around concept during your next visit to Meeru, a reservation is required 24 hours in advance. Guests are entitled to one dine-around lunch or dinner for every 5-night per guests’ stay (pre-booking required and subject to space availability) and are not valid for special events.

*Guest staying less than 4 nights can still enjoy the dine around experience at the Hot Rock and Asian Wok Restaurant by reservation as an add-on, at USD 89 per person and USD 69 per person for AIP guests ( Price include 12% GST).

Beyond the Dine-a-round, for all guests, Asian Wok and Hot Rock offers an expanded dining and wine options under its regular a la carte menus.

The festive season is approaching, and the Christmas spirit is almost upon us. The preparations for the Gala Dinner and festive activities have started. We are inviting you to book your upcoming holiday and to celebrate the most exciting and joyful time of the year in Meeru.

We will be soon introducing “Sake”, a Japanese rice wine at our Asian Wok Restaurant. This will contribute a new flavour to the wide array of drinks already available — another must-try during your holiday with us.

Most of our holidaymakers are curious to try different tastes and unique cuisine. With our improved All Inclusive Plus package, this will now be possible. We are introducing a ‘Dine Around’ concept as an additional benefit for guests staying for a minimum of 5 nights. Special Asian menus will be available to choose from at our Asian Wok Restaurant, and some delicious Western menus will be served at our Hot Rock Restaurant.

Coming up soon is our Halloween Party! Are you ready to scare us on the dance floor?

It will be a spooky evening so dress up in your scariest costumes and join us on October 31 at Kakuni Bar with our resident DJ. Let us all dance the night away as we celebrate Meeru Halloween Night.

Meet The Captain

In our latest edition of Meeru Meet The Team, we go out to sea to meet Mohamed Ismail. Nicknamed Keyolhu, Ismail is the Captain of Meeru-14. He lets us in on his favourite things and the secret to being great at his job.

What do you like most about your job?

I like that my job allows me to be out at sea. Since I was a child, I have always loved the ocean. I would spend my time swimming, snorkelling and fishing on small dhonis. Now, as a Captain of Meeru-14, I take guests on fishing trips, which makes me truly happy.

What are your hobbies?

In my free time, I love going fishing, watching movies and playing indoor games like Carom and Table Tennis.

What do you like most about the resort?

What I love about Meeru is the caring management who look after our welfare and my friendly team members.

What is the secret to being a good Captain?

The secret to being a good Captain or working in Guest Transport is to be punctual and always ready. You must strive to keep the vessels clean and tidy. It helps to have a can-do attitude and to respect everyone.

What is your greatest dream?

My dream is to continue providing excellent service and keep doing my best.

Experience The Best Snorkelling In The Maldives At Meeru

Over the years, the Maldives has come to be known as a snorkelling destination of great repute. Complementing the general beauty of this tropical paradise is an azure lagoon that is crystal-clear and teeming with a wide and unique variety of marine life. Meeru Island Resort & Spa offers the opportunity to enjoy all that the Maldives has to offer, including the best snorkelling.

Explore the magical underwater world in Meeru as you swim alongside beautiful tropical fish, and marvel at the swaying coral. In these waters, it is common to spot schools of fish, manta rays, moray eels, blacktip reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, grey reef sharks, lobsters and more.

For beginners seeking to start snorkelling, Meeru has you covered. Our in-house professional dive centre, Euro-Divers, offers snorkelling lessons and equipment rental services. Alternatively, you can bring in your snorkelling equipment or buy some from our gift shop. The expert team will show you the ropes and soon enough, you’ll be ready to go on snorkelling adventures.

If you are a confident snorkeller, call your buddy and head over to the Snorkelling Trail on the northern tip of the island. The easily visible floating buoys mark the trail to follow from the beach to the snorkelling site and back. As always do not touch or step on the coral, or feed the marine life. For safety, be mindful of the current and avoid over-exerting yourself.

Every day from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 14:30 to 16:30, join the free, guided snorkelling boat trip and explore the Indian Ocean with friends. Additionally, we have a variety of other snorkelling excursions that you can join in, for a chance to travel to other reefs and see more of the marine life. While you can snorkel all year round, the best time to snorkel in the Maldives is between January and April. During these months, the weather is fantastic with little to no rainfall and the water is the clearest allowing for excellent visibility. There is lots to do in Meeru, whatever time you visit. Meet The Meeru Team: Shaji, Luggage Coordinator

Neelakanta Pillai Shaji Kumar is a Luggage Coordinator in the Front Office Department who has been with Meeru for 21 years. Shaji had a chat with us regarding his job and interests. Read on.

What do you like most about your job?

I like being able to serve the guests, bringing in luggage that contains important holiday essentials for their most awaited vacation.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy playing games at Ekuveni (staff recreational facility) such as carom and billiards. I also love watching cricket matches, but most of the time, you will find me watching Hindi movies.

What do you like most about the resort?  

I love that the resort has provided great staff facilities and modern amenities such as the coffee machine to make us comfortable. I also love our guests who make it possible for us to be here.

What do you love to do during your free time?  

Meeru is just a speedboat transfer away from Male’ so I love travelling to the city to meet friends for dinner or coffee once in a while.

What is the secret to being a good luggage coordinator?

I believe the secret to working well is hard work, honesty and dedication to the job.
