The coral nursery at Meeru Island Resort and Spa showed on this underwater webcam began in 2016 after a coral bleaching event which affected most of the coral reefs in the Maldives. In order to help speed up the recovery of the reefs, fragments of coral are places onto frames where they can grow before being placed back on the reef. Meeru Island Resort and Spa’s coral nursery is one of the most successful in the Maldives and as such, the lagoon where the nursery is located boasts a wide variety of fish species. It is not uncommon to see turtles, rays and small reef sharks cruising in this area.
The coral garden is located on the east side of Meeru, in front of 200s beach villas.
