The New Year is right around the corner, which is the ideal time to look back and review the year at Meeru. From the highlights and achievements, to the moments that made us smile, here are the top 7 ways that Meeru has exceeded expectations in 2017:

Number 7: We added more awards to our wall

For Meeru, 2017 was the year to collect a variety of accolades and recognitions, including the HolidayCheck Gold & Recommended Awards; the Hotels.com Top 100 Spa Award, the Agoda Golden circle Award; the Expedia Top Partner – Platinum Award; and the Thomas Cook Sunny Heart Award.

All awards are thanks to you, our most valued guests, who continuous leave excellent reviews, ratings and feedback on the travel platforms. So, thank you!

Number 6: We remain Environmental Champions

For the 3rd consecutive year in a row, Meeru has been awarded the TUI Environmental Champion Award 2017 for continuous efforts to promote sustainable tourism and a clean environment. To make the 4th consecutive year, Meeru has also been awarded the TUI Environmental Champions for 2018!

Number 5: We welcomed a Resident Marine Biologist

The latest addition to the Euro-Divers team is Emma Bolton, Resident Marine Biologist. Emma provides valuable information and education about our beautiful underwater world and marine eco-system to our guests. Besides other tasks, Emma is also a part of Meeru’s Evening Program, where guest join the weekly Marine Presentation.

Number 4: We added new facilities to the Northern part of the Island

The new Games Room and TV Lounge at adults-only Uthuru Bar is a huge hit with guests staying on the Northern part of the Island. The Games Room features Billiards, Snooker, Foosball Table, Darts and Board Games; and the TV Lounge features an extra-large Ultra HD TV screen complete with a sound bar.

Number 3: We launched a brand new, sleek and easy-to-use website

On December 1, 2017, we launched a brand new website with a responsive design that is perfect on all your devices. The website is simple and easy to navigate and includes a new image gallery, virtual reality tours of the Island and all the best features.

Number 2. We helped restore the coral reefs

Together with Save the Beach Maldives – a Maldivian Non-Government Organization, Meeru launched the Coral Garden Program to restore and enhance our coral reef ecosystems. The aim of the program is to transplant corals from some of the surrounding reefs to dedicated areas in the eastern lagoon. The corals grow lively each day.

Number 1: We made friends, shared smiles and celebrated holidays

This year, Meeru welcomed several long-standing repeat guests, first time holidaymakers, influential bloggers and celebrities to the Maldives. The warm, friendly hospitality of our teams and the pure charm of the Island have made the year memorable for guests of all ages.

From building lasting friendships, sharing smiles with guests and celebrating holidays, like the recent #FestiveChallenge, Meeru has certainly exceeded expectations in 2017.

There is more to come and we look forward to welcoming you in 2018!

Making the Maldives a better place for World Tourism Day 2017

World Tourism Day 2017, globally observed every year on September 27, highlights the social, cultural and economic value of tourism. The most important question, as we celebrate this day, is “How can we contribute to make the Maldives a better place?”

This year, Meeru Island Resort staff will be participating in Blood Donation Day to coincide with World Tourism Day 2017 and the commitment to making the Maldives a better place. By taking the time to donate, our teams will be giving someone else a chance at life.

The Blood Donation Drive will be held at the ‘Ekuveni’ Staff Area, from 0930 and ends at 1600.

Meeru also welcomed students from the local Majeedhiyaa School that is located in Male’ City for an Exposure Trip by the Maldives Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with schools and universities in the Maldives.

The trip will create awareness and foster career development among the students and enhancing the perspective around the Maldives tourism industry.

Last year, Meeru hosted a variety of tourist-friendly activities, including Coral Planting, Maldivian Cultural Shows and fun outdoor games. These guest favorites were also part of the World Tourism Day 2017 celebrations at Meeru.

Help us continue to make a difference on our Island and the Maldives environment by protecting our precious corals, marine life and vegetation.
