There is plenty of talent to be found in Meeru Island Resort & Spa and Meeru's culinary team can have their exceptional individuals. Here at Meeru, we have been lucky enough to build a team that truly excels in the kitchen. In our latest blog, let us introduce you to Ali, one of the teams' chefs de parties.
In his current role, guests can find him at the buffet restaurants and serving on the yachts.
Q: Tell me about yourself and what it is like to be a Chef De Partie at the resort? How long have you been with the resort?
My name is Mohamed Ali, I am 50 years old and I have been working in Meeru for over 25 years.
Q: Tell me a bit about yourself and your background, where are you from and where you have worked and how it has shaped you?
I am from an island called Nolhivaranfaru in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. I started work as a crew member for a yacht called Hagern, before becoming a waiter onboard, then a kitchen helper and finally a Chef.
Q: Why did you decide to become a Chef De Partie?
I enjoyed my work as a kitchen helper and there was a position opened to become a Commis Chef and I took the opportunity. Then as I worked hard, I got promoted and now I am one of the Chef De Partie who enjoys cooking both for the staff and the guests of Meeru.
Q: What do you love most about the resort you work at?
I get to work on the Kamana, one of Meeru yachts as we go on excursions with guests which are very fun at the same time I get to prepare meals for guests of different nationalities.
Q: What hobbies do you enjoy when you are not at work?
In my free time, I enjoy talking with friends, playing football, fishing and snorkelling
Q: What is your favourite among the wide selection of food in the buffet?
I enjoy Maldivian food on the weekly Maldivian Theam Night and my favourite is Garudhiya (Maldivian Fish Broth) with Fried Fish a perfect combination eaten together with a variety of accompaniments and side dishes like thelulifay (fried drumstick leaves), boiled yam, fresh lime to name a few.
Q: What food on the menu will you recommend guests to try? Why?
Meeru guests should try the fish at the buffet and for a more extravagant evening to order the Maldivian lobster which is served with fresh vegetables mostly from the Meeru garden.
